I love reading menus, and have always wanted to design one. In my final semester, I set out to conceptualize a brand concept for a restaurant, complete with a menu and printed collateral that patrons would use and enjoy.
I spent a lot of time perfecting the Grind Coffee Co. logomark. I wanted it to be a perfect representation of the brand, so I didn't rush the process. However, when it came time to design the actual collateral, I struggled to make it fit my vision for the brand. In the end, I decided to scrap the design and start over.
I began designing the menu that would be handed out at the physical restaurant. As I worked, I discovered a visual language that I could use throughout the brand design. This took the form of using the "g" logo as a decorative element and using it largely to represent the café at a glance.
I feel very inspired seeing other restaurant branding, and I'm so excited that I was able to work on this project with the help of my mentors. Hopefully one day I can make another passion project out of some new branding work!
